modular emergency clinics for covid-19 response

Many clinics and medical facilities are overwhelmed looking for spaces to take care of their traditional  cases, while also dealing with the logistics and overwhelming quantity of potentially exposed covid-19 patients.

We have a modular solution for medical clinics.   If you need space, and are looking for a way to segregate non-exposed patient populations a temporary clinic makes perfect sense. this saves room in ICU and critical care for other acute cases,  or if there are extenuating circumstances such as incarceration patients requiring separation from the general public.

The U S Army corp of engineers has identified temporary medical facilities as "alternate care facilities" (ACF).  An ACF for the military might include triage space to separate respiratory trauma and not-respiratory trauma patients.

Our architectural team would ask you to make sure you have covered the following considerations in the design criteria.   Not all modular buildings can be used for an ACF facility.

• Infrastructure:  Do you have sufficient sewer, power, water, and electrical on the proposed temporary site to carry the requirements for your new ACF facility
• Ventilation:  Do we comply with ventilation requirements established by the medical design community and professional design teams
• HEPA filtering: This should be constructed into the facility ; an HVAC mechanical professional will be able to identify your specific requirements based on your space usage goals.
• plumbing:  Patients who are ambulatory will be able to use traditional ADA restrooms. For those unable to leave a HEPA-filtered environment, mobile commodes must be made available. For mobile hospitals deployed outside in a greenfield situation, a commode system, as well as portable hand-washing stations, will require a system such as a removable black water tank for waste removal
• electrical :  The electrical systems are designed around the number of beds, and the type of medical equipment that will be utilized.   Design professionals will ensure you have sufficient power to accommodate all of the medical equipment in each patient care area.
• medical gas : The med-gas lines will be drawn to a central location or more as the size of the ACF facility requires. This will allow for essential delivery to every patient location.

• Lower energy bills. One of the benefits of foam roofing is that it offers superior insulation properties
• Another benefit of installing foam is that it offers unique waterproofing qualities.
• Flexible installation- around items on the roof, spray foam roofs are seamless.
• Maintain structural integrity, no need for special load calculations or design criteria, lighter weight than other roofing systems in the marketplace
• Foam roofing directs rain to the drain.
• New generation of covering is no longer susceptible to birds & bug invasions, with a top layer of granules. 

Modular Building With Foam Roof DISADVANTAGES:

• Not all contractors are created equal, sometimes contractors will overspray or cover items not intended resulting in additional work to clean things up
• foam roofs can be damaged by hail and elements, suggest full inspections a minimum of 2x per year, and then immediately seal or repair any damages.
• Slightly more expensive than some systems, and recoat is required at about 5-10 year term

What is the best roofing choice for my modular building?   In this series we will highlight several options so you can learn about various systems, and decide what is best for your location & modular building design.

Built Up Roofing for Modular Buildings

I have included a link to an article that defines what built up roofing is and some of the advantages and disadvantages.   Most people in our warm southwest climate prefer a cold applied built up roof (BUR), but it can also be applied hot as the article indicates.

Here are some highlights from the article:

" Most built-up roofing is comprised of three parts: bitumen material, ply sheets, and one or more surfacing materials. The bitumen can be either “hot,” meaning it is heated so that it liquefies during installation, or it can be “cold,” which is more like an adhesive and is not heated. Cold built-up roofing can be sprayed or applied with a squeegee. It does not give off toxic fumes during application and is not dependent on weather. It also offers better performance than hot built-up roofing"

"The ply sheets of built-up roofing are special fabrics that are reinforced with fiberglass or organic materials. Each ply sheet layer is laid over hot or cold bitumen to bond it to the roof"

"Depending on the climate and the specific materials used, built-up roofing has an average life expectancy of 15 to 30 years, but some constructions can last up to 40 years. In general, built-up roofing tends to fare better in warmer climates than in cold regions."

Dedication Of New High School Provided By Modular Solutions

Modular Solutions was pleased to be the design-build contractor that fulfilled the dreams of the Leech Lake Reservation Community by constructing this state of the art new high school facility.

The dedication had many dignitaries attending, all who contributed to the journey of building a new high school and providing the community with a quality education.

This high school serves as so much more than just a facility to education young minds.  This new high school is the center of the community and will be a meeting place for multi-generational and cultural enrichment.
